Two high-profile jobs proved to be one too many for Gary Tripp.

That's why the future executive director of the New Mexico Activities Association decided to move up his start date.

Tripp said Thursday he will step down as Rio Rancho High principal March 19 and start at the NMAA on March 29. June 1 was his original start date with NMAA, which governs state high school sports.

Tripp had been working part time and unpaid for NMAA since December.
