LACTC To Acquire Union Pacific Property and Trackage Rights for Planned Five-County Commuter Rail System

The Los Angeles County Transportation Commission announced today that an agreement has been reached with the Union Pacific Railroad to acquire four miles of property, trackage rights, and access to Union Station for a combined price of $17 million. The LACTC, on behalf of the Southern California counties, has been negotiating with the Union Pacific to purchase certain property and rights. The agreement reached with Union Pacific paves the way for the planned commuter rail service to begin in October of 1992.
