HOME-BASED BUSINESS I
Underinsured . . .
Most of America's 11 million home-based businesses are vulnerable to significant financial losses because they don't have proper insurance coverage.
When asked about the lack of insurance, nearly 40% of home-business owners said they thought they were protected by some other type of coverage, says a survey by the Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of America. Thirty percent of the business owners said their ventures were too small to insure, and 20% could not give a reason for not having insurance.
The group says that without insurance, home-based business owners may be at risk for losses due to theft, accidental damage, natural disasters, vehicle accidents, on-the-job injuries or business visitor injuries. Homeowners insurance normally does not provide protection in those situations.
