Grasso hangs on to NYSE payout
Former NYSE Chairman Dick Grasso won't return any of the $139.5 mil in compensation he received in '03 and may go after the exchange for an added $50 mil, according to reports. Grasso's lawyer wrote a letter to the exchange in response to interim NYSE Chairman John Reed's demands that Grasso return at least $120 mil of his pay, said the Financial Times and the Washington Post. Grasso lost his job in Sept. after outrage over his pay package.
Banker admits Parmalat payoff
Luca Sala told investigators he misappropriated $27 mil in a Parmalat kickback scheme with an outside broker, and has offered to forfeit $23 mil. The former executive said earlier he and Bank of America were fraud victims of the $5 bil hole in Parmalat's Bank of America accounts. The bankrupt dairy's total debts may top $18 bil.
Freddie uncertain on earnings
