Court blocks Black/Barclay deal
A U.S. judge ruled against the former CEO of Hollinger International and his plan to sell control of the publishing conglomerate to the Barclay brothers. Conrad Black said he disagreed with the ruling, but will help sell the company's assets, including the Chicago Sun-Times, through the Lazard investment bank. Hollinger shares rose 8% to 18.60.
WPP Group sees '04 turnaround
The advertising giant said it's on track to raise its operating margin to 13.8% in '04, up 0.8% from '03, as part of the agency's recovery from a tough market. It also said views for 3%-4% growth in the global ad industry during '04 were on target. Shares fell 4% to 56.11.
