Judge Drops Top Stewart Charge
1The judge said there wasn't enough proof that Martha Stewart committed securities fraud by proclaiming her innocence just to boost her firm's stock. The charge had worried corporate America. Stewart still faces 4 charges related to obstructing a probe of her Dec. '01 sale of ImClone stock. Martha Stewart Living shares jumped 11% to 14.53, the best since June '02.
Capital Spending Drove Q4 GDP
2The U.S. economy expanded at a 4.1% annual rate in Oct.-Dec., better than the initial 4% reading. Capital spending was revised sharply higher, a good sign for future growth and profits. Disney Braces For Voter Dissent
3A North Carolina pension fund with $56.5 mil in Disney shares won't vote for Chairman and CEO Michael Eisner's reelection to the board this week. Holders of over 30% of Disney's shares oppose him. It's unclear if the board will interpret the votes as a call for Eisner to quit, or a protest vs. his dual CEO-chairman roles. Analysts see Comcast sweetening its takeover bid after the vote.
