2004 MAR 4 - (NewsRx.com & NewsRx.net) -- The Wellness Community (TWC) announced the launch of a new web site, www.GroupLoop.org, that provides teenagers with cancer online support groups (OSGs), valuable resources and information, understanding, and acceptance.
The site will also provide OSGs and resources for the parents of teens with cancer.
Group Loop was developed by The Wellness Community - National to recognize the unique challenges that teens with cancer face in their uncharted journey through the various stages of the disease - initial diagnosis, treatment, and post-treatment.
Teenagers already deal with numerous emotional and physical changes. When cancer becomes a part of their lives, all emotions are heightened which can lead to increased feelings of devastation, aloneness and loss of control.
At a time when most teens are concerned with the right clothes, friends, and the latest hair styles, teens with cancer may face hair loss, weight loss/gain, surgery and disfigurement.
Jason Hamilton, a teen who battled a cancer diagnosis last year is thankful to hear about the new site, "Group Loop is going to give teens everywhere a place to feel connected and in touch with others who are dealing with the same issues. It's nice to know we will have our own place online where we can express ourselves and know that people get it."
Through this first-of-its-kind online program, TWC will strive to meet the challenges and needs that teens living with cancer and their families face. Teens can restore a level of independence and self-esteem through Online Support Groups within their homes or in the hospital.
