Shortly alter sunset on November 12, 2003, Josh Lenoue of Olympia, Washington, heard noises coming from the woods near a neighbor's property. Investigating, he noticed lights flickering from the trees and decided to return home for a flashlight and his .22-caliber handgun.
Accompanied by his German shepherd, Lenoue was returning to the area of the suspicious activity when three men suddenly appeared in the darkness. Lenoue pointed his gun at the men and ordered them to the ground. They complied.
The flickering lights that Lenoue had seen were from a stolen car that the thieves were stripping for parts. Initially, the trio claimed that they were repairing the car for a friend, but Lenoue told The Olympian newspaper for November 14 that "as soon as I shined the flashlight on them, I knew what was going on."
Lenoue called 911 on his cell phone and held the suspects at gunpoint until deputies arrived and arrested them. A sheriff's captain ...
