NISMO's delay is Stillen's sales boost
All that time Nissan was dickering around delaying NISMO parts, the aftermarket was cranking. Perhaps one of the crankingest companies when it comes to Nissan stuff is Stillen.
Racer-turned-tuner Steve Millen founded Stillen (stillen.com), and Steve Millen knows Nissans. From 1989 to 1995, driving the Nissan factory 300ZX, Millen (brother of Rod, uncle of Rhys) set the standing record for most IMSA GT sports car race wins. That includes class wins at Daytona, Sebring and Le Mans, as well as more pole positions than anyone in IMSA GT. He won the IMSA GT championship in 1992 and 1994.
Millen launched Steve Millen Sports Cars in 1990 (which sells Stillen products), designing, manufacturing and selling aftermarket parts for Nissans. With his background, what does he think of the new Z?
"I was glad to see it come out,'' Millen says. "But after my first drive in it, I thought, `Is this all there is to it? It has no guts.'''
Enter the guts: the Stillen twin-screw roots-type supercharger (opposite page). It boosts output at the flywheel from 287 hp and 274 lb-ft of torque stock to 370 hp at 6000 rpm and 346 lb-ft at 4200 rpm.
