An Earnhardt at Childress Racing
Kerry Earnhardt, oldest son of the late Dale Earnhardt, will compete in five NASCAR Nextel Cup races for Richard Childress Racing, the team with which Earnhardt Sr. won six championships. Sponsorship will come from Bass Pro Shops, and the car will wear No. 33. Childress said Earnhardt will do research and development driving for RCR in four races starting at Talladega on April 25. He will also drive at Daytona on July 3, Talladega on Oct. 3 and Atlanta on Oct. 31.

Promotional "races'' for two-seater Formula One-type cars could be staged on the Sunday mornings of Grand Prix weekends this season. Such a scheme, featuring chassis built by Minardi and liveried for each of the 10 teams, was seriously discussed by the team principals last week.
New F3000 proposed
Series administrator Bruno Michel launched the new Formula GP2 single-seat spec series, which is supposed to replace the 19-year-old FIA Formula 3000 series in 2005. Michel is a former F1 executive with the Ligier team and engine supplier Supertec. He also manages FB Associates, Flavio Briatore's race driver management business. Michel awarded an exclusive chassis supply contract to Dallara, and his announcement irked the FIA, which swiftly issued a statement clarifying this as "a private series'' and "one of several Renault promotional formula.'' The FIA stressed it had not yet seen the rules for the series, and that the inclusion of GP2 on the F1 schedule was a matter for Formula One ...
