That's how Ferrari's Formula One technical director Ross Brawn described the 2004 Formula One car at its launch in Maranello, Italy, on Jan. 26.
There had been rumors the last couple of weeks of radical new wings a la Williams (AW, Jan. 12), but the new car looks an awful lot like last year's car. The rumored radical front wing could still appear, according to chief designer Rory Byrne. He said much aerodynamic testing will go on before the season opener in March.
"Our analysis of the 2003 season highlighted the areas where we were strong and those where we were weak,'' Brawn said.
"Certainly, we did not react aggressively enough to the opportunities presented by the 2003 regulation changes. For 2004 we have worked to ensure that we will not make the same mistake.
"One of the key elements to our eventual success in 2003 was our technical partnerships, and perhaps the most important partnership is with Bridgestone,'' he said. "During a tire war of the intensity and level we have experienced in the last few seasons, no tire company can be totally dominant. We will succeed or fail on the strength of our tires.''
