Anyone who's had to sit at home waiting for a cable installer or phone technician to show up knows how disruptive it can be.
Often they arrive late due to unexpected delays, and sometimes they don't come at all.
No one is more aware of these problems than the service providers themselves. That's why some are turning to outside experts such as At Road Inc. for help.
At Road offers wireless and Internet-based technologies and services that let companies manage and communicate with mobile workers.
Customers equip their service vehicles with a small terminal that contains Global Positioning System chips. They can also use a GPS-enabled phone.
The GPS receiver embedded in the terminal collects information from satellites, then uses this information to calculate the user's position, velocity and time.
