The Dow shed 0.2% Friday to close down 0.8% for the week, but up 0.3% for the month. The S&P 500 gave up 0.3% Friday and 0.9% for the week, but held on to a 1.7% gain in January. Volume pulled back.
GATX cratered 4.15 to 22.60 on its biggest volume in over a year, as more than 5 million shares changed hands. The stock closed below its 50-day moving average for the first time in three months. The rail and aircraft leasing firm's fourth-quarter profit rose 131% to 37 cents a share, beating views by 6 cents. It cut its quarterly dividend 38% to 20 cents amid competitive pressure.
