When To Hold A Winner:
Last In A Series
Many of the points made in this series were made over and over. Were they redundant? Perhaps so, and with good reason.
As many great growth investors have declared in the past, one cannot make a huge profit in this game if one sells a big winner too soon.
In fact, this was one "mistake" that a few readers who attended the Dec. 6 advanced seminar in Los Angeles admitted to making. The market made a big advance last year. That's the time to hold good breakouts for triple-digit gains.
Of course, no one knows how 2004 will turn out. If a serious decline or months of choppy trading take place, be ready to shift gears. From Jan. 8 to Feb. 3 last year, IBD published a series under the theme, "Sell Rules In A Trading Market." Subscribers can view them at IBD Archives on investors.com.
