Classification: Antidepressant.

Common Usage: Mirtazapine is indicated for the treatment of major depression.

Important Side Effects: Dry mouth, drowsiness, fatigue, constipation, increased appetite/ weight gain (approx. 7% of body weight), sleeplessness, agitation, headache, blurred vision, upset stomach, decrease in sexual function, nausea and decreased appetite (more patients than with increased appetite). Some of these side effects may lessen in severity, or go away, with prolonged use of the drug. There is a risk of developing agranulocytosis, a serious condition affecting blood cells.
