L.A.'s search for revenue may bring sale of LAX

LOS ANGELES - Faced with their second straight red-ink budget, city officials are taking a fresh look into whether sprawling Los Angeles International Airport can be sold, leased or recast as a takeoff point for new revenues.

One drastic idea being considered is putting LAX - the fourth busiest airport in the U.S. - on the auction block, a concept that gained momentum during the privatization movement of the 1980s. Another hot idea is hiking LAX's airline landing fees, ranked among the lowest of major U.S. airports.
