2004 JAN 21 - (NewsRx.com & NewsRx.net) -- Vibrio cholerae toxins activate the proinflammatory immune response.
According to recent research from the United States, "Vibrio cholerae induces either non-inflammatory diarrhea or inflammatory gastroenteritis, depending on the presence of cholera toxin, a fluid secretion inducer and a modulator of host immunity."
"In the absence of cholera toxin, other toxins induce inflammation, resulting in gastroenteritis," stated Karla J. Fullner Satchell at Northwestern University. "Thus, multiple toxins likely affect the safety of live attenuated vaccines."
