DOWNERS GROVE, ILL. -- Once again, The Spiegel Group's Eddie Bauer division has come to the forefront of bankruptcy proceedings as it overhauls its corporate strategy. Spiegel recently announced that it plans to close 30 more Eddie Bauer stores this year, as it works toward emerging from Chapter 11 status.

The company closed 60 stores during the course of 2003, putting the current number of units at 469. The reason these stores were not part of this original cut was because "they were previously estimated to generate positive cash flow in the second half of 2003," stated Eddie Bauer ceo Samuel Gaston in a court filing.
