Burrill closes $211M biotech fund.

Burrill & Co., a San Francisco-based merchant bank specializing in life sciences investments, said Monday, Jan. 12, it had closed its Burrill Life Sciences Capital Fund LP with a total commitment of $211 million.

The fund expects to make 20 to 40 investments a year in companies conducting A-, B- and C-round fundraising. The fund expects to make investments of $5 million to $15 million.

The closure of the fund, which will invest in biotechnology, pharmaceuticals and device and diagnostics companies, comes amid optimism that the bleakest days for the industry in recent memory are coming to an end. The fourth quarter of 2003 marked …
