KATHY MATTEA - "JOY FOR CHRISTMAS DAY" - (NARADA)

Kathy Mattea is no stranger to Christmas albums. Her 1993 holiday recording, "Good News," earned the artist a Grammy Award. On her latest stab at yuletide music making, "Joy for Christmas Day," Mattea is still in top form, combining traditional Christmas carols ("Angels We Have Heard on High," "O Come, All Ye Faithful") with some great contemporary tunes.

Marc Cohn's "Baby King" and the beautiful "Straw Against the Chill" are some of the best examples of the new material. Also worth noting is the "Christmas Collage," a sort of musical potpourri that kicks off the CD. (A-)

Am I the only one out there who feels as if Jimmy Buffett should be suing Kenny Chesney for ripping off his shtick?
