Amerisource Loses VA Contract

AmerisourceBergen lost a bid to remain the top drug vendor for the Veterans Affairs Department. The VA chose McKesson Corp. for the $2.9 bil-a-year contract. Amerisource cut its '04 earnings forecast by 40 cents to $4.10-$4.20 a share, surprising analysts.

Suit Targets Calif. Nurse Laws

The California Healthcare Association, speaking for nearly 500 hospitals, sued the state Health Services Department. It says hospitals won't be able to comply with the new nurse-staffing law. Effective Jan. 1, this first-of-its-kind law requires one nurse for every six patients in medical-surgical units.
