Byline: Morey Stettner
After 20 years as a motivational speaker and consultant, Jim Ziegler knew all about selling and business strategy.
So he decided to write a book.
Rather than pitch his idea to traditional publishers, Ziegler self-published his way to success.
He paid $20,000 for 5,000 hardcover copies of his book, "The Prosperity Equation."
He travels 250 days a year giving speeches, so he sells his book at his events and on his Web site.
"The possibility for an unknown author to get a book published is remote," said the Duluth, Ga.-based Ziegler. "And there's no guarantee a publisher will promote it. So I did it myself."
