IBM Corp.'s Jim Corgel says the recent holiday shopping season energized an area called hosted e-business services.
With this type of service, companies such as IBM run e-commerce sites and other business networks for corporate clients. IBM's hosting rivals include the likes of Hewlett-Packard Co., Sun Microsystems Inc., Microsoft Corp. and others.
Corgel says more customers turned to providers like IBM for such services during the holidays. This helps them deal with spikes in customer demand, among other things.
One sign of the popularity of hosted business services, Corgel says, was Hallmark Cards Inc.'s decision in mid-December to use IBM Web hosting services to run its flower delivery and eCards businesses.
Corgel recently spoke with IBD about trends in hosting e-commerce Web sites.
