America West chalks up profits for the sixth consecutive quarter

For the third quarter, America West Airlines reported net income of $5.77 million, or 28 cents per share, up from net income of $4.06 million, or 24 cents a share, in the same period a year ago.

The Phoenix-based airline earned $18.87 million, or 97 cents per share, for the nine-month period ended Sept. 30. That profit compares with a loss of $9.7 million, or 74 cents per share, during the same span in 1988.

Third-quarter 1989 operating revenues jumped to $243.4 million, up from $201.2 million in 1988. Revenues stood at $715.2 million as of Sept. 30, compared with $563.8 million at the …
