New Mexico might gain an early edge today in the fight to keep its military bases open.

State and congressional leaders said Monday they already had seen the Department of Defense's criteria for a base realignment and closure process criteria to be released today.

From that early peek, officials said, things look good for New Mexico.

"These are criteria that play to New Mexico's strengths," U.S. Sen. Pete Domenici, an Albuquerque Republican, said in a written statement.
