Denise Barela Shepherd will be the newest judge in the 2nd Judicial District Court in Albuquerque.

Barela Shepherd, a Republican, was named to the post by Gov. Bill Richardson on Tuesday. She will replace Judge Susan Conway, who has retired.

"This is another sign of bipartisanship in state government," Richardson said in a statement. "I promised to nominate the most qualified candidates, regardless of party affiliation."

Barela Shepherd was also the last name added to a short list of candidates given to Richardson.
