Serious about the 6 Series
For the new 6 (Cover story, Nov. 24), BMW has traded a harmonious flow of lines for an angry clash. Chris Bangle's statement that, "The rear end of this car looks this way because it has to look this way'' is a cop out. If Mr. Bangle were an artist, he'd be expected to make something beautiful. If he were an engineer, his job would be to make something functional. But he is a car designer, and his job requires him to achieve both.

The new 6 Series appears beautiful inside and out, but what wasn't mentioned was the new grille. You can tell it's based on the Z9 concept car and it looks much more contemporary. I hope BMW uses it across the line. I've got a deposit on the 6 cabrio, which is the closest thing to owning a Z9!
