State to shift stock to clinics in need
Saying that influenza's early arrival is a harbinger of what could be the worst flu season in decades, health officials in South Carolina and other parts of the country have been urging the public to get their flu shots.
The public has listened. Now there might not be enough vaccine to go around.
On Friday, the two major suppliers of flu shots, Chiron and Aventis Pasteur, said they had run out of vaccine and will not be able to meet a late surge in demand.
The result has left clinics and health departments scrambling for what's remaining.
