The 58,000 members of the Goodguys Rod and Custom Association celebrated the organization's 20th anniversary this year. Its founder, Gary Meadors, has always been a hot rodder, and we might add, a good guy.
AW: What's your favorite hot rod?
Meadors: Well, I've got a bunch of them, but I always answer it's the one I'm driving. I like my '47 Plymouth Model A Roadster, built a couple of years ago. I like 'em all...
How many do I own? Well, let's put it this way, it's more than several. Here's the problem. My wife is also as nuts about cars as I am... So we're our own worst enemy.
AW: Goodguys, the association, and all your events, are pretty family oriented. How do you explain the family atmosphere in hot rodding?
Meadors: It's so family. Think about it: The guy wants to buy the car, and he talks to the controller, the wife, and so she gets involved. And that kinda starts it all. The kids and the family go riding in it... when it's finished, you're the family in the neighborhood that's got that special car.
