The following statement was released July 15, 1991, by Nancy W. Dickey, M.D., member, American Medical Association (AMA) board of trustees:

The American Medical Association is pleased that the Centers for Disease Control has issued guidelines to ensure that HIV-positive healthcare workers do not infect patients. The CDC guidelines are consistent with AMA policy in most instances, including opposition to mandatory testing and support for continued research on transmission.
