Mideast violence and a global tech crunch haven't dampened venture investments in Israeli tech firms.
So says Allan Barkat, who runs the Israeli office for Apax Partners Inc. The New York-based venture capital firm manages $11 billion in funds.
Barkat says Israel's tech sector helped develop Intel Corp.'s Pentium chip and AOL's instant messaging system. And, he says, it will continue to be a hotbed of innovation.
PricewaterhouseCoopers says Israeli tech companies raked in 851 million euros in investments in 2002. Europe's No. 1 country, the U.K., attracted 790 million euros. And Israel has just 6 million people vs. 60 million for the U.K.
Barkat recently spoke to IBD about the venture money going to Israel's tech sector.
