Boeing Co. on Monday said Chairman and Chief Executive Phil Condit would resign his post.
The news came amid slow commercial aircraft orders, ethical questions about a Pentagon deal and the firing of Boeing's CFO.
Now analysts are asking whether the No. 1 aerospace firm can keep its government customers happy as it faces questions about lucrative contracts.
In a teleconference, Condit said, "In the end, I concluded the controversies and distractions of the past year were obscuring the great accomplishments and performance of this company. My fear was we would get bogged down. I believe the best way for the company to stay on track is to step aside and bring in new leadership."
Former McDonnell Douglas Chief Executive Harry Stonecipher replaced Condit as president. Board member and former Hewlett-Packard Chief Executive Lewis Platt was named nonexecutive chairman. He has been on Boeing's board for several years.
