NELSPRUIT, South Africa, Nov. 20 (AENS) - The oldest flying club in South Africa celebrates its 50th anniversary on Friday with aerial displays, sundowners and dinner.
The Lowveld Aero Club will celebrate the event at the small municipal airport in Nelspruit, Mpumalanga, which has one of the shortest runways in the world.
The club was established in 1953 when the small airport was built on land donated to the Nelspruit town council by fruit farmers, HL Hall and Sons, to meet demands for building contractors to be flown into the Lowveld.
