SAN ANTONIO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 20, 2003
Company Encourages Customers to Research Options before
Making a Switch
SBC Communications Inc. (NYSE:SBC) said today it would accelerate bringing wireline to wireless number portability to all consumers in all markets in its region by Nov. 24, rather than wait another six months as outlined by the FCC.
In a letter sent today to FCC Chairman Michael K. Powell, SBC Communications Inc. said that the company is going beyond the call and will implement number portability throughout its 13-state operating region, regardless if customers live within the top 100 MSAs. In addition the letter points out the company's disappointment with the Commission's decision to move forward without competitive parity.
"Technically and operationally, we're ready...ready throughout our 13-state territory," said John Atterbury, group president of operations, SBC. "We've ported nearly seven million numbers to other wireline companies since 1997. We've got the experience, the people, the technology and the network to meet our customers' needs."
