Texas State University-San Marcos (formerly Southwest Texas State University) invites nominations and applications for the position of Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs.
The Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs reports directly to the president and represents the university in all respects in the president's absence. As the chief academic officer and second ranking executive officer of the university, the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs is responsible for all major academic endeavors of the university, which includes supervision of all academic units and programs as well as a number of academic support and service units. The Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs is responsible for academic strategic planning, managing the budget for the division of Academic Affairs, establishing academic policies, academic unit reviews and accreditation, academic program development in conjunction with deans, chairs, and faculty representatives, and resource development for academic affairs. The Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs also authorizes academic appointments, leads faculty development initiatives, and recommends to the president on all faculty evaluation decisions, including tenure and promotion, among other responsibilities. The Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs works closely with and coordinates the efforts of the executive team to achieve the established goals of the university, within a framework of shared faculty governance.
Texas State University-San Marcos is a doctoral granting university located in the burgeoning Austin-San Antonio corridor, the largest campus in the Texas State University System, and the 6th largest in the state.
