Gene re-ups
Marc Gene has re-signed with Williams as its test driver for next year, his fourth straight season in the job. He raced for the team in the Italian Grand Prix Sept. 14, after Ralf Schumacher was injured in a testing crash. Gene finished fifth.
Pakistani GP?
A delegation from Pakistan has inspected the Bahrain International Circuit project near Sakhir, where the Gulf nation's new Formula One venue is being built for the inaugural Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix in April 2004. Pakistani ambassador Sabih Uddin Bokhari led about 40 delegates on the visit, which included a presentation by Hermann Tilke & Partners project manager Rizwan Mumtaz.
A Roush-Wood swap
NASCAR team owners Jack Roush and Eddie Wood made the move to shake up the programs of Mark Martin and Ricky Rudd by swapping crew chiefs, effective Nov. 3. Ben Leslie, who helped Martin finish second in points last year, moved to Rudd's program while Pat Tryson, Rudd's former crew chief, went to Martin's side. Leslie is in his fifth season as a Winston Cup crew chief, Tryson is in his seventh. While Roush and Wood field separate teams, they work together under Roush's engine program. Roush described the move as a step toward building a closer partnership in the future as the Wood Brothers move their team to the Charlotte area near Roush's operation.
