Hai sign for NSX
Honda president Takeo Fukui says Acura's 13-year-old NSX will be replaced with a car based on the Honda Sports Concept that took AutoWeek Best in Show honors at the recent Tokyo motor show (AW, Nov. 3).
AutoWeek sister publication Automotive News reports that Fukui said the second-generation NSX will closely mirror the HSC show car, but won't appear until 2005 at the earliest.
The Honda Sports Concept packed a 300-hp V6 in a shorter, wider, lower and lighter weight package than the existing $90,000 NSX.
VW's $65,000 question
Volkswagen's most expensive car ever, the Phaeton (AW, Nov. 3) hits showrooms next month with a base price of $65,215, including $615 freight charge. That nets a V8 engine with 335 horsepower and a 0-to-60-mph time of 6.7 seconds, according to VW. Step up to the W12 model and the minimum entry fee jumps to $85,505. The extra dough buys 85 more horses and shaves nearly a second off the 0-to-60 dash. The German marque is betting that roughly 3000 people will agree with its argument for an uber-VW.
