Visitors find inns a cozy option

It was the little things - Haagen-Dazs ice cream in the refrigerator, a turned-back blanket on the bed - that made Lavern Campbell's stay in a New York bed and breakfast something to remember.

Upon returning to San Antonio, Campbell decided to cash in on the home-away-from-home concept by starting up her own bed-and-breakfast service.

That was nine years ago. Now the owner of Bed and Breakfast Hosts of San Antonio, Campbell handles the reservations for 23 area inns located in some of the historic districts of the Alamo City.

And while business isn't exactly booming, Campbell and her homeowners say they simply enjoy offering visitors a unique view of the hospitality in San Antonio.

Daily, she acts as a liaison between the bed and breakfast owners and the visitors …
