Yellow Pages turn to green for Southwestern Bell

Just when Southwestern Bell Corp.'s revenues were looking flat, along came the company's Yellow Pages subsidiary.

That until brightened the financial picture with an 11.9 percent revenue gain - $113.7 million, for the first three months of 1991 compared to $101.6 million for the same period in 1990.

Directory advertising, primarily the Yellow Pages, made up 5.3 percent of Southwestern Bell's corporate revenues, compared to 4.8 percent for the same period in 1990.

It was a bright spot in a quarter that saw corporate expenses jump $54.8 million and operating income fall 40.7 percent to $423.2 million. Most of that drop came because of price cuts in …
