Merrill planning to hire brokers
After 3 years of cutting jobs, the investment bank plans to boost its brokerage staff by 5% a year over the next 3 years, citing improved financial markets. Merrill Lynch said it'll hire 650 brokers by the end of 2004. It has cut over 20,000 jobs since mid-'00. In mid-Oct., Merrill ended its salary freeze. Rivals including Bear Stearns are also boosting staff.
