Slot machine firm hits Q3 jackpot

International Game Technology earned 29 cents a share, up 93% vs. a year ago and beating views by 1 cent. Sales rose 14% to $547.5 mil. IGT sells two-thirds of all slot machines in the U.S.; it sold 32,800 machines in Q3 vs. 30,500 in Q3 '02. IGT said new machine sales might fall in '04, but replacement sales should pick up. IGT shares fell 2%.

Marvel tops Q3 views by 4 cents

The comic book publisher earned 43 cents a share in Q3. Last year it earned 17 cents, including a charge. Sales were nearly flat at $84.5 mil. Licensing sales soared 66% to $41.6 mil, but missed some analyst views. Marvel Enterprises expects to earn 10-16 cents in Q4 vs. views for 15 cents. Shares fell 7% to 29.50.
