Many Anglicans decry gay bishop
A group of overseas Anglican leaders, many in Africa, loosened ties with the U.S. Episcopal Church over its Sunday consecration of its first openly gay bishop, Gene Robinson. But they stopped short of declaring a schism. Nigerian Archbishop Peter Akinola said Robinson's ascension has created "a state of impaired communion" between them and the U.S. church.
