Conexant buys GlobespanVirata
The maker of broadband communications chips is buying fellow chipmaker Globespan Virata for about $832 mil. Globespan holders will get 1.198 shares of Conexant stock per Globespan share. That's $6.24 based on Monday's close. Conexant shares fell 11% to 5.21. Globespan fell 0.04 to 6.11. More on A4
IBM will supply next Xbox chip
Microsoft said it'll use an IBM chip in the next version of its Xbox video game console. The software giant used an Intel chip in the first version of Xbox, launched three years ago. IBM, which also makes chips for Nintendo's gaming console, is working with Sony on a chip for its next-version PlayStation console.
