First Health gives profit warning
The preferred provider organization earned 42 cents a share in Q3, up 31% from last year and 2 cents above views. First Health offers "self-insure" plans that let big corporations save costs. First Health cited fewer new clients as competition heats up. It expects to earn $1.55 this year and $1.50-$1.55 in '04. Analysts see $1.55 in '03 and $1.82 next year. Shares sank 25% to a 2-year low of 18.45.
Teva's Q3 earnings climbed 47%
The Israeli generic drug maker earned 53 cents a share, 4 cents over views. Sales rose 29% to $813 mil on strong demand for new generics and Teva's multiple sclerosis drug Copaxone. It signaled it'll meet Q4 targets. Shares rose 3%, despite some jitters over its planned $3.33 bil buy of Sicor, announced Friday.
