Platform development on the Chrysler 300C/Dodge Magnum began back before the DaimlerChrysler assimilation, but that doesn't mean there hasn't been parts sharing. Just how much of that 300C/Magnum is Mercedes stuff, anyway? According to chief engineer Burke Brown, 20 percent, including the five-speed automatic, steering, front and rear suspension, differential, seat structure, stability control program and much of the electronic bits for various plug-and-play devices like the Mercedes rear object detection system.
"Sharing parts allowed us to cut development time and leapfrog quality things you might otherwise have to learn yourself,'' said Brown.
