Fannie Mae tops local firms in response to shareholders

As public companies grow into massive conglomerates, the individual shareholder tends to get to lost in the shuffle, largely ignored by the board and high-paid corporate executives.

But with greater frequency these days, shareholders are asking these corporations "what have you done for me lately?"

A shareholder advocacy group called the United Shareholders Association in Washington is helping answer that question by ranking the nation's top 1,000 companies on the basis of their responsiveness to shareholders.
