Home loan demand falls in week

The Mortgage Bankers Association of America's gauge of applications for new home loans last week fell 5.7%. But the MBAA's index of overall mortgage demand eased just 0.5%, as the gauge of mortgage refinancing applications rose 4.9%.

Consumer comfort edges higher

The ABCNews/Money magazine consumer comfort index rose to -18 last week from -19 the prior week. Of those polled, 29% say the economy's in good shape, up from 28% a week earlier. Those saying their own finances are healthy and it's a good time to buy things held at 57% and 37%, respectively.
