Claim "the majority of shippers" would suffer if "Big 22" get their wishes on Shipping Act.

The Ocean Common Carrier Coalition has begun playing hard ball in its effort to fight back the attempt by some of the shipping industry's best customers to amend the Shipping Act of 1984.

A study report commissioned by the carriers repeatedly refers to the "Big 22" shippers in an obvious attempt to drive a wedge between large shippers and "the majority," which the carriers believe are satisfied with the way the Shipping Act is working.

The Booz-Allen report concluded that "over the last five years, both shippers and carriers have benefited from the major provisions of the 1984 Shipping Act. The act appears to have balanced the often differing interests of shippers, …
