Bank of Edwardsville and Wetzel - 31 years together

When Robert Wetzel refers to the bank he runs, he calls it TheBANK in Edwardsville.

"That's what we are," Wetzel said "We've advertised like that for many years."

The Bank of Edwardsville is the largest independent and locally owned bank in Madison County, with $285.3 million in assets as of March 31.

Wetzel, president of the bank, has been with The Bank of Edwardsville since January 1960. At that time, the bank had assets of about $8.5 million, Wetzel said. He has been president since 1981.

The Bank of Edwardsville was started in 1868, with original capital of $10,000.
