Mess your desk. Spread folders and papers all over your work space. "People will think you're up to your ears in projects and won't bother you," says Fred Pollack, author of The College Senior's Survival Guide to Corporate America.
Carry props. Tote a notepad, a pen, and an old memo, then focus on it as you walk around. "You'll look like you're on your way to a meeting," explains Pollack. Also, if you want to slip out of me office, leave a sweater on your chair so it seems as if you've just left for a second.
